The Legends of the Jews, Volume I

Reuben

Role: son · First appears: The Birth Of Jacob's Children

Leah gave birth to Reuben, her first son with Jacob, at the end of seven months of marriage. After Leah’s death, Reuben moved her couch into Jacob’s tent instead of Bilhah’s. Asher told Reuben’s brothers about the act, and they broke relations with Reuben; Reuben later repented and confessed, after which his brothers reconciled with Asher.

At Mount Seir, Reuben’s son Enoch was with Jacob’s sons when they defeated Esau’s army and pursued the fugitives. Esau’s sons and the other fugitives eventually submitted to peace and agreed to pay tribute.
