The Twelve Caesars

Livilla

Family: Julio-Claudian · Role: wife of Drusus · First appears: Tiberius 62

In Tiberius 62, Livilla was married to Drusus the Younger, who was poisoned through the contrivance of Livilla and Sejanus; they were also recorded as enemies. At Caligula 7, she was among the six children who survived Germanicus, alongside Agrippina the Younger, Drusilla, Nero Caesar (son of Germanicus), Drusus Caesar (son of Germanicus), and Caligula; she was also linked as a child with Agrippina the Elder and as a sibling with the same family.

At Claudius 1, Livilla was one of the three children left by Drusus the Elder and Antonia, together with Germanicus and Claudius Caesar. In Claudius 3, she openly and loudly expressed indignation that Claudius was about to be created emperor, saying that the Roman people should face “a fate so severe and so much below their grandeur.”
