The Twelve Caesars

Drusus Caesar (son of Germanicus)

Also known as: Drusus / Drusus (son of Germanicus) · Family: Julio-Claudian · Role: grandson of Tiberius · First appears: Tiberius 54

Drusus Caesar was a son of Germanicus and Agrippina the Elder, one of their three surviving sons alongside Nero Caesar (son of Germanicus) and Caligula, and a brother to Drusilla and Livilla. In Tiberius 54, Tiberius commended Drusus and Nero Caesar (son of Germanicus) to the senate, solemnly introduced them into the forum, and distributed money among the people.

Later in Tiberius 54, Tiberius accused the two brothers of scandalous vices and had them declared public enemies. Drusus was starved to death by Tiberius in the vaults of the Palatium. In Caligula 7, Drusus and Nero Caesar (son of Germanicus) were again described as having been declared public enemies at Tiberius’s accusation; in Caligula 12, Caligula was chosen augur in his place.

In Tiberius 65, Tiberius ordered his grandson Drusus, whom he still kept confined at Rome, to be released if occasion required and to lead the troops. Lucius Otho had earlier contracted his daughter to Drusus before she reached marriageable age.
