The Sháh Námeh

Poshang

Family: Túrán · Role: sovereign · First appears: Nauder

In the Story of Nauder, Poshang, a descendant of Túr and sovereign of Túrán, resolved to avenge Sílim and Túr. He summoned his son Afrásiyáb, explained his purpose, and gathered an army against Nauder. His other son, Aghríras, urged caution, warning that Persia still had Sám, Kárun, and Garshásp, and that it would be better not to begin the war than bring ruin upon their own country. Afrásiyáb later wrote to his father about his campaign and the forces he had sent against Zábulistán.

In the Story of Garshásp, after Afrásiyáb murdered Aghríras and returned to Túrán, Poshang grieved and refused to see him. He later forgave his son when he heard that Garshásp could not rule Persia, and sent Afrásiyáb with an army to conquer Irán under the pretext of avenging Sílim and Túr.

In the Story of Kai-kobád, Poshang accepted Afrásiyáb’s wish for peace and entrusted Wísah with presents and proposals to Persia. When the Túránian army withdrew across the boundary, Rustem argued against peace, but Kai-kobád chose it, and peace was concluded.
