Dan
Family: Israelites · Role: brother · First appears: The Wives Of The Sons Of Jacob
In the year of Joseph’s misfortune, Dan married Elflalet, daughter of the Moabite Hamudan. After a long childless period, they had a son, Hushim. Dan was a son of Jacob and brother to Joseph, Reuben, Gad and Asher; at Raamses, Jacob summoned his sons from Egypt to receive their blessings.
When the son of Pharaoh proposed an attack on Joseph, Dan and Gad forced Naphtali and Asher to join the hostile enterprise. In his testament, Dan confessed to his children, “I had resolved to kill Joseph, that good and upright man, and I rejoiced over his sale.” After speaking, he kissed his children and died.
