Dinah
Family: Israelites · Role: Asenath's mother · First appears: The Wives Of The Sons Of Jacob
In the year of Joseph’s misfortune, Dinah’s brothers married. Later, after she refused to leave Shechem with them, Simon swore to marry her, and did so. When Simon and Levi massacred the men of Shechem, Dinah asked, “Whither shall I carry my shame?” Shechem, son of Hamor, had given her the city as a present.
Dinah and Shechem had a daughter, Asenath, who was later Joseph’s wife. Asenath was abandoned at the borders of Egypt, and through her the city of Shechem passed to Joseph. Dinah was a daughter of Jacob and sister to Simon, Levi, and Joseph; Joseph later sent her gifts of clothing, silver, gold, and perfumes.
After Zitidos died during the years of his trials, Job married Dinah as his second wife. She bore him seven sons and three daughters, including Jemimah, Keziah, and Amaltheas.
