Family: Moanalihaikawaokele's family · Role: father of Kahalaomapuana · First appears: Chapter XXVII · Part 1
In Chapter XXVII, at Kahakaekaea, Moanalihaikawaokele recognized Kahalaomapuana as his daughter, set her on his lap, and asked what journey had brought her there. In Chapter XXVIII, she returned to him after meeting her mother, and he asked how it had gone. In Chapter XXX, after the seer departed, Kahalaomapuana and the other sisters were taken with Laieikawai to dwell in the moon.
In Chapter XXXIV, Moanalihaikawaokele joined Laukieleula and Laieikawai to decide what to do about Kaonohiokala after his sin with Laielohelohe. He stripped Kaonohiokala of his place at Kahakaekaea and condemned him to become the ghost called Lapu. He told Laieikawai that she could return to her sister if she filled Kekalukaluokewa’s place; when she agreed, he renamed her the Woman of the Twilight and declared that her kin would bow to her as to a god. When he had finished, he returned to the heavens and dwelt in the taboo house on the borders of Tahiti.
