Lebbaeus

Also known as: Thaddaeus · Family: Jesus's disciples · Role: apostle · First appears: Matthew 10

Lebbaeus, also known as Thaddaeus, is an apostle among Jesus’s disciples. In Matthew 10, Jesus gave the twelve power to cast out unclean spirits and heal sickness and disease, then sent them to Israel to preach, heal, cleanse lepers, raise the dead, and cast out devils, commanding, “Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not.”

Jesus is Lebbaeus’s mentor, teaching that “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.” God is identified as his parent, whose care is shown in the teaching that not even a sparrow falls without the Father. In Mark 3, Jesus ordained the twelve to remain with him and gave them authority to preach, heal sicknesses, and cast out devils.
