The Legends of the Jews, Volume I

Seth

First appears: The Death Of Adam

In Adamah, Seth was born alongside Cain and Abel. Adam and Eve later had him as the fruit of their reunion, and he was raised to become a virtuous man. While on his way to Paradise, a wild beast attacked him, but after Eve called out, it did not harm him and slunk away.

At the gates of Paradise, Michael told Eve and Seth that their petition could not be granted: Adam would die, and his descendants would also be subject to death. In the year Adam died, Seth joined Enosh, Enoch, and Methuselah in burying him with great honors. Seth was the father of Enosh, who named him when asked who his father was; the account also describes Seth as destined to be the ancestor of the Messiah.
