Methuselah
Role: ruler of the earth · First appears: The Ascension Of Enoch
In the year Adam died, Methuselah joined Seth, Enosh, and Enoch in burying him with great honors. When Enoch was taken up, the angels placed him on his bed where Methuselah had been waiting, and Methuselah and Enoch’s other sons built an altar at Achuzan. After Enoch’s translation, the kings proclaimed Methuselah ruler of the earth.
Methuselah slew ninety-four myriads of demons before Agrimus entreated him to stop and handed over the names of the demons and imps; Methuselah then put their kings in iron fetters. When Noah was born, Methuselah named him, saying he would bring the earth joy in compensation for destruction. Lamech had fled to his own father Methuselah, afraid of the child; when grown, Noah followed the ways of his grandfather Methuselah, the pious king.
When the appointed period of probation expired, Methuselah died. The people mourned him, and the account describes nine hundred rows of mourners corresponding to the orders of the Mishnah he had studied.
