The Hawaiian Romance of Laieikawai

Kaeloikamalama

Family: Moanalihaikawaokele's family · Role: magician · First appears: Chapter XXVII · Part 1

In Chapter XXVII, Mokukelekahiki fled to Nuumealani after seeing Kihanuilulumoku, where he found Kaeloikamalama, the magician who closed the door of the taboo house on the borders of Tahiti. As Kihanuilulumoku raised his tail and sent waves over the cliffs, he threw Kahalaomapuana onto Kaeloikamalama’s neck. Kaeloikamalama and Mokukelekahiki, brothers of Laukieleula and uncles of Kahalaomapuana, heard she was their own child, released her and kissed her.

Kaeloikamalama offered to show Kahalaomapuana the road upward: “We will show you the road, then you shall ascend.” At his call, Lanalananuiaimakua lowered a spider-web road through the air.
