Greek Mythology

Phoebe

Family: Titanides · Role: daughter of Leucippus · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 1.1

🌐 Also appears in: Greek Tragedy — The Same Myth, Three Voices (as Phoebe)

At Messene, Castor and Pollux abducted Leucippus’s daughters, Phoebe and Hilaira, and married them: “And wishing to marry the daughters of Leucippus, they carried them off from Messene and wedded them;” Pollux later had Mnesileus by Phoebe. She is also identified as a daughter of Leucippus and as one of the Titanides, born to Sky and Earth.

In the account of the Titans, Heaven and Earth produced Phoebe among their children. Phoebe came to the embrace of Coeus, with whom she had Asteria and Latona; Hesiod likewise names Leto as born through their love.
