Legends of the Gods

Tefnut

Family: Egyptian gods · Role: goddess · First appears: The History of Creation — A

In the History of Creation A, Neb-er-tcher brought Tefnut and Shu into being. After two hen periods, Tefnut and Shu rejoiced and brought Neb-er-tcher his Eye; they also brought forth Keb and Nut.

The History of Creation B gives a separate account: Neb-er-tcher emitted Tefnut and Shu, and Tefnut and Shu brought forth Osiris, Heru-khent-an-maati, Set, Isis and Nephthys. In a hymn to Horus in the Legend of the Death of Horus through the Sting of a Scorpion, Tefnut is named as a child of Ra.
