After the battle of Magh Tuireadh, Lugh gave his mother, Ethlinn, in marriage to Tadg, son of Nuada. They had two daughters: Muirne, who became Finn’s mother, and Tuiren, who became Bran’s mother. Later, Muirne refused Tadg’s request that she seek weapons from Daire Donn, and they sent Labran of the Long Hand to seek them in the shape of a great eagle.

When Aedh (son of Aebinn) came to Tadg, he gave him a sword and shield to bring to Finn for battle. After a while, Manannan gave Tadg a shield and chessmen, which passed from him to his grandson Finn.
