Gods and Fighting Men

Muirne

Role: mother of Finn · First appears: The Gods · Lugh of the Long Hand · The Great Battle of Magh Tuireadh · Part 3

Ethlinn and Tadg were the parents of Muirne, who became the mother of Finn. She was married to Cumhal, and her sister was Tuiren; Labran of the Long Hand was her brother.

After Finn was in the wood, Muirne took another husband, the king of Carraighe. At the end of six years she found Finn asleep in a hunting cabin, lifted him in her arms and kissed him, sang to him, then bade farewell and went away. Later, when Tadg asked her to seek weapons from Daire Donn, she refused, saying, “Do not be asking me,” for Daire Donn had been brought up in her father’s house.
