Alexander
Family: Jewish authorities · Role: son of Simon a Cyrenian · First appears: Mark 15
Alexander, of the Jewish authorities and son of Simon a Cyrenian, is named with his sibling Rufus when their father is compelled to bear Jesus’s cross: “the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.”
In Acts 4 at Jerusalem, Alexander was among the rulers and kindred of the high priest who questioned Peter and John, the son of Zebedee about the healing power they preached. The council commanded them not to speak or teach in Jesus’s name and further threatened them, making Alexander an enemy of both. In 1 Timothy 1, Paul delivered Alexander and Hymenaeus unto Satan so they might learn not to blaspheme.
