Nauplius
Role: hero · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 2.1
Nauplius was born to Amymone and Poseidon. Accounts name Clymene, Philyra, and Hesione as his wives; with Clymene, he became the father of Palamedes, Oeax, and Nausimedon. He was also connected with Catreus, who gave him Aerope and Clymene to sell in foreign lands: “And Catreus gave Aerope and Clymene to Nauplius to sell into foreign lands;”
Auge was likewise delivered to Nauplius for execution, but he gave her to Teuthras instead. After Palamedes’ death, Nauplius and Odysseus became enemies, as Nauplius claimed satisfaction for his son’s death. Before his own death, beacon lights lured him to destruction, and “he himself died by that very death.”
