Sir Epinogris
Also known as: Epinogris · Family: Arthur's party · Role: knight · First appears: Book X, Chapter LXV
In Book X, Chapter LXV, Sir Epinogris pursued Breuse Saunce Pité, whom he called the falsest knight alive and a great foe to errant knights: “his name is Breuse Saunce Pité.” In Chapter LXXXII, he revealed to Sir Palomides that he was “the king’s son of Northumberland,” and soon afterward told how he slew an earl and a knight, winning the earl’s daughter as his lady.
The next morning, Sir Helior le Preuse wounded Epinogris and took his lady, leaving him for dead. Sir Palomides promised to recover her, brought her to Epinogris at an hermitage, and, with his brother Sir Safere, escorted the wounded knight and his lady safely to Epinogris’s castle, where Epinogris received them with great cheer and joy.
In Book XVIII, Chapter X, Epinogris fought alongside Sir Brandiles, Sir Sagramore le Desirous, Sir Dodinas le Savage, Sir Kay le Seneschal, Sir Griflet le Fise de Dieu, Sir Mordred, Sir Meliot de Logris, Sir Ozanna le Cure Hardy, Sir Safere, and Sir Galleron of Galway as the knights of the Table Round beat back the forces of King of Northumberland. In the following chapter, Sir Launcelot and Sir Lavaine routed the assembled knights; Sir Launcelot unhorsed Epinogris with Sir Safere and Sir Galleron.
