Erp

Family: Giukings · Role: son · First appears: Chapter XL · How Gudrun cast herself into the Sea, but was brought ashore again

In Chapter XL, Erp was born to Gudrun and King Jonakr, alongside his brothers Hamdir and Sorli. The Whetting of Gudrun tells how Swanhild, Sigurd’s daughter, was raised with them, and how Gudrun urged her sons to avenge Swanhild.

In Chapter XLIII, as Hamdir and Sorli journeyed to avenge Swanhild, they asked Erp how he would help them. They rejected his offer and slew him; his death, with those of his brothers, brought the Giuking line to an end. The Lay of Hamdir also tells of the brothers killing Erp on the way.
