Adam
Role: first man · First appears: Genesis 2
In Genesis 2, God formed Adam from dust, breathed life into him, and placed him in the garden of Eden to dress and keep it: “and man became a living soul.” God commanded him not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, then made Woman from his rib and brought her to him.
In Genesis 3, Eve ate the forbidden fruit, gave it to Adam, and he ate. God judged him for listening to Eve, cursed the ground so that his labor would be difficult, clothed him and Eve in coats of skins, and sent him from the garden to till the ground. Adam called his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
In Genesis 4, Adam became the parent of Cain, Abel, and Seth, whom Eve bore, with Seth given as another seed in place of Abel, whom Cain slew. In Genesis 5, God is said to have created Adam in his likeness, blessed male and female, and called their name Adam; Adam lived nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.
