Iuchar

Family: Sons of Tuireann · Role: son of Tuireann · First appears: The Gods · Lugh of the Long Hand · The Sons of Tuireann · Part 2

When Brian turned his two brothers into hounds to pursue Cian in pig-shape, Iuchar and Iucharba tracked the enchanted pig. At Teamhair, as Lugh publicly confronted the sons of Tuireann over his father’s death, Iuchar and Iucharba privately agreed to acknowledge the killing; Brian instead denied it and offered to pay the fine as though they had. Lugh demanded a specific fine, and later named the sons of Tuireann enemies for the death of Cian.

In their quest to gather the fine, the brothers took service with the King of Siogair. Easal gave them his pigs and hosted them, then accompanied them to Ioruaidh to seek the whelp from its king. After Brian defeated and bound the King of Ioruaidh, the whelp was given to the brothers, the king released, and peace made. As they left, Lugh’s spell made them forget the rest of the fine and long to return to Ireland. They reached Brugh na Boinn believing they had completed it, and told the king, “We did get it.”
