Navaho Legends

the boy made of corn (Origin Legend IV)

First appears: Origin Legend IV: Growth of the Navaho Nation · Part 1

In Origin Legend IV: Growth of the Navaho Nation · Part 1, the white ear of corn became the boy made of corn, and the yellow ear became the girl made of corn. Ni'ltsi gave them life, Tse`gádinatini Asiké furnished them with mind, and the Grasshopper Girl gave them voices. Yolkaí Estsán led the newly created pair into her hogán.

In Part 2, Yolkaí Estsán married him to Hadáhonestid Atét, the Ground-heat Girl, while the girl made of corn married the Mirage Boy. The corn-made boy and girl were siblings, so they could not marry one another. “After a time” each couple had a boy and a girl; when the children were large enough to run around, the boy’s family moved from Hadzinaí, where they had lived four years, to Tse`lakaíia.
