Callicratidas
Family: Lacedaemonians · Role: admiral · First appears: Book 1, section 6, part 1/2
In Book 1, section 6, Callicratidas replaced Lysander as admiral and went to Cyrus’s court to seek further pay for the sailors, but was told to wait two days. He pursued Conon as he put out to sea, hoping to cut him off from Samos, and a sudden attack on Diomedon cost Diomedon ten vessels. When Lysander declined to interfere in another officer’s province, “Callicratidas assumed responsibility.”
In the next part, after hearing that the relief squadron had reached Samos, Callicratidas left fifty ships at Mitylene under Eteonicus. Before the battle, his pilot Hermon advised withdrawing because the Athenian ships were far more numerous.
