Diomedon
Family: Athenians · Role: commander · First appears: Book 1, section 6, part 1/2
In Book 1, section 6, Diomedon was attacked by Callicratidas, whose sudden assault cost him ten ships; Diomedon escaped with his own vessel and one other. In section 7, he was among the returning generals deposed by the authorities in Athens. Euryptolemus called Diomedon his friend while speaking in his defence, and Timocrates proposed that the generals be taken into custody.
During the festival of the Aparturia, supporters of Theramenes arranged for disguised mourners to appear before the assembly and persuaded Callixenus to accuse the generals. The assembly deferred its decision, but at a later date the eight generals were condemned; Diomedon was among the six in Athens who were put to death.
