The New Testament

Titus

Family: Christian · Role: companion of Paul · First appears: 2 Corinthians 7

In 2 Corinthians 7, Titus’s coming brought comfort to Paul and those who were distressed, while the Corinthians refreshed his spirit. In 2 Corinthians 8, God put earnest care for the Corinthians into Titus’s heart; he accepted the exhortation, went to them willingly, and was sent with another brother to administer the charitable gift.

In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul desired Titus and sent him with a brother to serve the Corinthians, asking whether Titus had made any gain from them and affirming that they walked in the same spirit and steps. At Jerusalem, Galatians 2 records that Titus, who was Greek, was not compelled to be circumcised.

In Titus 1, Paul calls Titus “mine own son after the common faith” and leaves him in Crete to organize what was unfinished and appoint elders in every city. In Titus 3, Paul tells Titus to come to him at Nicopolis when Artemas or Tychicus is sent, and to help Zenas and Apollos safely on their journey.
