Lot
Family: Sodom · Role: nephew of Abram · First appears: Genesis 11
In Genesis 11, Haran fathered Lot, along with his daughters Milcah and Iscah, who were Lot’s siblings: “and Haran begat Lot.” In Genesis 12, Lot went with his uncle Abraham and their households from Haran into Canaan. In Genesis 13, after Lot chose the plain of Jordan, he and Abraham separated, with Lot journeying east and dwelling in Sodom.
In Genesis 14, invading kings led by Chedorlaomer captured Lot and seized his goods at Sodom. Abraham defeated them by night at Hobah and brought Lot, his people, and his goods back. In Genesis 19, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the overthrow. Lot entered Zoar after escaping Sodom.
That night, Lot’s firstborn daughter and then his younger daughter lay with him after making him drink wine, and he did not perceive when either lay down or arose. The firstborn bore Moab, father of the Moabites, while the younger bore Benammi, father of the Ammonites.
