The Sháh Námeh

Húmán

Family: Túrán · Role: chief · First appears: Story of Sohráb · Part 3

In the Story of Sohráb, Afrásiyáb appoints Húmán and Bármán to support Sohráb, ordering them to conceal his identity from Rustem. When Sohráb defeats Hujír, he spares him and sends him captive to Húmán. Later, Sohráb tells Húmán of his fighting, but when urged to complain, he insists, “To-morrow's contest shall his fate decide.”

In the Story of Saiáwush, Húmán saves Afrásiyáb from Rustem, who is about to seize him. In Súsen and Afrásiyáb, Húmán and Pírán dissuade Afrásiyáb from continuing the engagement singly and direct the Túránians into a general attack; Rustem and Ferámurz then rescue Barzú from the surrounding enemy. During the conflict with Gúdarz, Afrásiyáb appoints Húmán to resist his advance. Húmán challenges Tús, but Gúdarz sends Gíw in his stead; in battle, Byzun defeats and kills Húmán.
