the hunter (Jeebi legend)
Role: hunter · First appears: The Jeebi; or, Two Ghosts
In The Jeebi; or, Two Ghosts, the hunter lived with the hunter's wife (Jeebi legend) and their child in a lodge far from others, hunting by day. The two strange females, sent by the Great Spirit from the land of the dead to test the living, stayed with the couple, gave them instructions for a future life, and blessed them. When the wife’s anger showed that their presence had become irksome, the females announced their departure.
The hunter found the success they had promised: “He became celebrated in the chase, and never wanted for anything.” He and the hunter's wife (Jeebi legend) had many children, who grew up healthy and to manhood.
