Miss de Bourgh is Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s only daughter and the heiress of Rosings, with a very large fortune and extensive property. Her education was superintended by a lady who still resides with her family, while Mrs. Jenkinson also lives with them.
She is Fitzwilliam Darcy’s cousin, and it is believed that they will unite their estates. Lady Catherine de Bourgh evidently destined them for each other, and their engagement is described as “of a peculiar kind”: “From their infancy, they have been intended for each other.”
