In ch.1, Sir William Lucas and Lady Lucas were determined to go, and by ch.5 he had quit trade and Meryton with his family for Lucas Lodge. In ch.6, he spoke of having once considered moving to town because he was fond of superior society, though he was uncertain whether London’s air would suit Lady Lucas; he also presented Elizabeth Bennet to Mr. Darcy as “a very desirable partner.” Charlotte Lucas later called him “an agreeable man,” while Maria Lucas was his daughter.

In ch.22, Sir William and Lady Lucas gave their consent to Charlotte Lucas’s engagement to Mr. Collins with great joy. Charlotte Lucas planned for her father and Maria to visit her in March, and in ch.27 Sir William travelled with Maria alongside Elizabeth Bennet; Elizabeth found that neither of them had anything worth hearing and that they were listened to “with about as much delight as the rattle of the chaise.”
