Maria Lucas

Also known as: Maria · Family: Lucas · Role: young woman · First appears: Chapter 3

In chapter 3, Maria Lucas was among the people accompanying Charles Bingley, described as “the two fourth with Maria Lucas,”. In chapter 26, Charlotte Lucas said that Sir William Lucas and Maria were to visit her in March, identifying Maria as her sister and Sir William Lucas’s daughter.

During the journey in chapter 27, Maria travelled with Sir William Lucas and Elizabeth Bennet; she was described as “a good-humoured girl, but as empty-headed as himself,” and as having little worth hearing to say. In chapter 28, Lady Catherine de Bourgh was expected to include Maria and Charlotte Lucas in every invitation extended during their stay.
