Momtchilo

Momtchilo was Yevrossima’s brother, and, as Petrovitch recounts in Chapter IV · Kralyevitch Marko; or, the Royal Prince Marko, Part 1, she passed much of her family’s heroism and other virtues to her son Marko. In Chapter XI · The Marriage of King Voukashin, Part 1, his wife Vidossava proposed to King Voukashin that he gather an army and hide in the woods by Momtchilo’s castle. She burned the wings of his steed Yaboutchilo and dipped Momtchilo’s favourite sword into salted blood.

When Voukashin’s forces attacked in Part 2, Momtchilo’s brothers gave him a sword, but his nine brothers were killed. Yevrossima tried to help her only brother escape by lowering linen from the rampart; Vidossava cut it as he climbed, and Voukashin ran him through the heart. Voukashin pillaged Momtchilo’s castle in Part 3, and Marko inherited his heroism.
