Thoas

First appears: Apollodorus, Library 1.9

🌐 Also appears in: The Iliad (as Thoas) · Greek Tragedy — The Same Myth, Three Voices (as Thoas)

In Apollodorus’s Library 1.9, Hypsipyle saved her father Thoas by hiding him. In Library 3.10, Thoas is listed among the sons of Icarius and Periboea, while the Epitome 1 gives another lineage, naming Dionysus as his father and stating that he begat Thoas, Staphylus, Oenopion, and Peparethus.

The Epitome 3 identifies Thoas as the son of Andraemon and Gorge, and says that he brought forty ships for the Aetolians. In the Epitome 7, Odysseus went to Aetolia to Thoas; Thoas is listed among the suitors of Penelope, and Odysseus married Thoas’s daughter, who bore a son, Leontophonus.
