The Peloponnesian War

Antimenidas

Family: Lacedaemonians · Role: ambassador · First appears: Book 5 · Chapter 16 · Part 4

In Book 5, Section 16, Antimenidas served as a Lacedaemonian ambassador with Andromedes and Phaedimus, sent to receive prisoners from the Boeotians and restore them and Panactum to the Athenians. At Panactum, the ambassadors found that the Boeotians had razed the place, citing an ancient agreement with the Athenians that neither side would inhabit it and both would graze it in common. They conveyed the Athenian prisoners back to Athens, but the Athenians, believing Lacedaemon had broken its compact, angrily dismissed the ambassadors.
