The Wars of the Jews

Tigranes

Family: Armenian · Role: king of Armenia · First appears: Book I, Chapter 5

Tigranes, king of Armenia, abandoned his siege of Cleopatra at Ptolemais after agreements and presents from Alexandra, amid domestic tumults caused by Lucullus’s expedition into Armenia: “Tigranes soon arose from the siege”. In the following chapter, he fought against Pompey as an enemy.

Not long afterward, Antony captured his son Artabazes and presented him, along with his money and spoils, to Cleopatra. Later, Tigranes is identified as one of the two sons of Alexander and Glaphyra, alongside his brother Alexander. He is also linked in a guardianship arrangement with Pheroras and Archelaus, who are named in connection with supporting the brothers.
