The New Testament

Judas the brother of James

Role: apostle · First appears: Luke 6

At Luke 6, after praying through the night, Jesus chose twelve disciples and named them apostles, including Judas the brother of James and James the son of Alphaeus, his sibling. Judas was among those whom Jesus called, in the setting where he “chose twelve, whom also he named apostles.”

In Acts 1, Jesus appeared alive after his passion and gave commandments to the apostles he had chosen, instructing them not to depart from Jerusalem but to await the Father’s promise. The lot later fell upon Matthias, who was numbered with the eleven apostles; Matthias is identified as another in relation to Judas.
