Abihu
Family: Israel · Role: son of Aaron · First appears: Exodus 6
In Exodus 6, Abihu was born to Aaron and Elisheba, alongside Nadab, Eleazar, and Ithamar. In Exodus 24, God commanded Moses to bring Abihu, Aaron, Nadab, and the elders to worship from afar; in Exodus 28, Abihu and his brothers were appointed, anointed, consecrated, and sanctified for priestly service before God.
In Leviticus 10, Abihu and Nadab offered strange fire before God, and “there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.” Mishael and Elzaphan carried their bodies out of the camp as Moses had commanded. Numbers 3 records the consecration of Aaron’s sons as priests and the assignment of the Levites to Aaron and his sons, while also stating that Abihu and Nadab died after offering strange fire in the wilderness of Sinai.
