The Story of the Volsungs

Dag

First appears: Edda · Part of the Second Lay of Helgi Hundings-bane

In the Second Lay of Helgi Hundings-bane, Dag, son of Hogni (father of Sigrun) and brother of Sigrun, sacrificed to Odin to avenge his father. Odin lent him a spear, and at Fetter-grove Dag thrust through his brother-in-law Helgi, who fell dead.

Dag rode to Sevafell and told Sigrun that Helgi had been slain. She cursed him for breaking his oaths to Helgi, and Dag offered her half his land and other gifts to ease her sorrow.
