Rho MD is a free desktop app — and an Android app — that opens .md files as live, interactive documents. No account is needed to read or write.

The app updates itself from then on (the store builds update through their store). Checksums for every file are on the download page.

Two things that trip people up on Linux: a downloaded AppImage has no execute permission until you give it one (right-click → Properties → Executable as Program, or chmod +x), and App Center shows a greyed-out Installed instead of upgrading an existing .deb — upgrade with sudo apt install ./Rho*.deb. The Snap build avoids both.

Open your first document

Write a .md file in any editor — or let an LLM write one (For AI & LLMs).
Open it in Rho MD: drag it onto the window, or use the Open File command.
Fenced blocks such as interact and chart come alive; everything else is ordinary Markdown.

The file stays a plain .md on your disk. In any other editor it reads as normal Markdown with a few fenced code blocks — that fallback is part of the format, not an accident.

There is no browser editor: rendering happens in the app. Rho Cloud (below) stores, syncs and publishes documents from inside it.

Rho Cloud status

Rho Cloud is live. A free account stores your documents and shares them by private link — you name who may open each one. Reading a published document costs nothing and needs no account.

Embedding the renderer in your own site

The renderer behind Rho MD also exists as a library, described in the Developer Reference. It is not published to npm yet — stl-md and @rho/md do not resolve on the registry today — so the install commands in that section describe the planned package, not something you can run now.
