What am I actually paying for?
Publishing to the public index, Psi library sync — and the time that goes into things nobody votes for: CJK punctuation that doesn’t fall through to whatever font the system had lying around, formulas that sit on the same baseline as the sentence around them, a dark theme that still prints on white paper. None of that shows up in a comparison table. If it isn’t worth five dollars to you, the free version is genuinely free and we mean it.
Do my readers need an account?
For anything published, no — reading in Rho MD is free and needs no account. A private link is the deliberate exception: the people you name sign in (free) so the document can tell it really is them. Uploading always needs a free account, because storage and takedown responsibility need an owner.
What counts against my allowance?
The bytes of your .md files — embedded images included. Psi metadata and graph data don't count.
Why is publishing paid but sharing free?
A private link costs us a few kilobytes. The public index costs bandwidth to strangers, moderation, and someone answering a takedown notice on a Sunday. The meter runs where our costs run — that is the whole reason the switch is there.
What do I declare when I publish?
An originality attestation — you confirm the work is yours to publish. It keeps the public index clean and is part of how takedowns stay fair.
