Stasippus
First appears: Book 6, section 5, part 1/4
At Tegea, Stasippus’s party fought the political faction led by Proxenus of Tegea, killing Proxenus and some others and putting the rest to flight. Stasippus’s side prevailed but did not pursue them, as he “did not care to stain his hands with the blood of his fellow-citizens.”
Later, Stasippus and his party took refuge in Artemis’s temple, but their opponents, with Callibius and the Mantineans, sentenced them to death and executed them. The Mantineans’ support for Proxenus and his friends was later disputed: some held it justified because Stasippus’s party had put them to death, while others objected to the armed force brought against the men of Tegea.
