Hedin

Role: son of Hiorvard and Alfhild · First appears: Elder Edda · The Lay of Helgi Hiorvard's Son · Part 1

In the Lay of Helgi Hiorvard's Son, Hedin is the son of Hiorvard and Alfhild, and the brother of Humlung, Hymling and Helgi Hiorvard's son. On a Yule-eve, he vowed to possess Svava, his brother Helgi Hiorvard's son’s beloved, but repented and left home; wandering through wild paths to the southern lands, he found his brother.

After Helgi Hiorvard's son’s death, Svava refused to embrace Hedin, saying, “I would not gladly, after my king's departure, an unknown prince clasp in my arms.”
