Hauailiki
Family: Kauai · Role: young singer of Mana · First appears: Chapter XIII
In Chapter XIII, Aiwohikupua wagered his lands against Hauailiki’s, sending him to Hawaii to win Laieikawai. Hauailiki sailed that night, but after showing off his surfing at Keaau for four days without drawing her notice, he rode the breakers without his board. Laieikawai beckoned him and placed a lehua wreath around his neck for his skill. Hauailiki returned to Kauai.
In Chapter XIV, after being threatened by Kahalaomapuana, Hauailiki fled to Keaau. He dreamed repeatedly of meeting Laieikawai, then secretly went to Paliuli and shook her awake, telling her that they had been united in his dreams. He left for Kauai at dawn and told Aiwohikupua he had lost his chance with Laieikawai; Aiwohikupua declared their bet ended because it had been made while they were drunk with awa.
In Chapter XVIII, at Mana, Hauailiki was among the chiefs gathered for a contest between him and Makaweli. Later, as Hinaikamalama sat there, he conceived a passion for her. In Chapter XIX, she refused to be with him until he was ready to take her as his wife at Hana.
