the man of sin
Also known as: that Wicked / that man of sin / the son of perdition · Role: eschatological adversary · First appears: 2 Thessalonians 2
In 2 Thessalonians 2, the man of sin, also called that Wicked and the son of perdition, is revealed after a falling away. His coming is empowered by Satan “with all power and signs and lying wonders,” while he opposes and exalts himself above God, sitting in the temple of God and presenting himself as God.
At the coming of Jesus, that Wicked is revealed and Jesus consumes him with the spirit of his mouth and destroys him “with the brightness of his coming.”
