In Genesis 36, Korah was born in Canaan as a son of Esau and Aholibamah, alongside Jeush and Jaalam: “And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.” Exodus 6 records Korah as a son of Izhar, with sons named Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph.

In Numbers 16, Korah joined Dathan, Abiram, and On in rising against Moses and Aaron, saying, “Ye take too much upon you.” Moses commanded Korah and his company to bring censers and offer incense before God; then God opened the earth and swallowed Korah, Dathan, Abiram, their households, and their possessions.
