The Peloponnesian War

Ischagoras

Family: Lacedaemonians · Role: oath-taker and envoy · First appears: Book 4 · Chapter 14 · Part 10

In Book 4, Ischagoras was preparing to cross overland with an army to join Brasidas, but Perdiccas used his Thessalian allies to stop the army. Ischagoras nevertheless reached Brasidas with Ameinias and Aristeus.

In Book 5, after the Lacedaemonians freed their prisoners, they sent Ischagoras with Menas and Philocharidas to order Clearidas to hand over Amphipolis to the Athenians. In the spring, the Lacedaemonians and Athenians made a treaty with oaths to be renewed annually; after the other allies refused the treaty, they agreed on an alliance and exchanged oaths.
