Agrippa Postumus
Also known as: Agrippa / Agrippa (grandson) · Family: Julio-Claudian · Role: grandson of Augustus · First appears: Augustus 19
In Augustus 19, while confined on an island with Julia the Elder, Agrippa became the target of a plan by his enemies Lucius Audasius and Asinius Epicadus, who intended to carry them away to the armies. By Augustus 64, he was identified as the son of Agrippa and Julia the Elder, and the sibling of Caius Caesar (grandson of Augustus), Lucius, Julia the Younger, and Agrippina the Elder. Augustus, his elder-kin, usually instructed him and his brothers in reading, swimming, and other rudiments of knowledge.
In Augustus 65, Augustus adopted Agrippa and Tiberius in the forum under a law passed for that purpose. Soon afterwards, Augustus discarded him for his “coarse and unruly temper” and confined him at Surrentum; later, calling him “equally intractable,” he transported him to an island, placed soldiers around him, and secured his lifelong confinement by an act of the senate.
