Peisander
Family: Lacedaemonians · Role: admiral · First appears: Book 3, section 4, part 3/3
Agesilaus selected Peisander, his wife’s brother, as admiral, describing him as ambitious and vigorous but not sufficiently expert in naval equipment to achieve a great success. At Cnidus, Peisander led his squadron against the combined fleets under Conon, despite being outnumbered; the allies on his left wing fled, and the Lacedaemonians were defeated. Peisander was killed in the engagement, where Pharnabazus was also present. Agesilaus then falsely announced that Peisander had “fallen in the arms of victory in a sea-fight.”
