Menw the son of Teirgwaedd

Also known as: Menw / the son of Teirgwaedd · Family: Arthur's Court · Role: counsellor · First appears: THE DREAM OF RHONABWY 3

In The Dream of Rhonabwy, Menw the son of Teirgwaedd is linked to Teirgwaedd as his parent and to Arthur among Arthur’s host, where he serves as a counsellor. In Kilhwch and Olwen or The Twrch Trwyth, Annyanniawc is named as his son.

The next day at the palace, Menw caught a dart cast by Yspaddaden Penkawr and returned it, wounding him through the chest: “And Menw the son of Gwaedd caught it, and flung it back at him, and wounded him in the centre of the breast, so that it came out at the small of his back.” After this, at Esgeir Oervel, Twrch Trwyth shook venom onto Menw, and “he was never well from that day forward.”
