Pedaritus
Family: Lacedaemonians · Role: commander · First appears: Book 8 · Chapter 24 · Part 5
Pedaritus, son of Leon, was sent by the Lacedaemonians to command at Chios. There he refused Astyochus’s request for the Chian vessels, executed the party of Tydeus on a charge of Atticism, and forcibly imposed an oligarchy on the rest of the city. He denounced Astyochus at Lacedaemon as a traitor.
After the Athenians routed the Chians and defeated the forces around him, Pedaritus was killed, along with many Chians. In the spring following, Leon the Spartan arrived from Miletus with Antisthenes and twelve ships to take command after his death; Xenophantes had earlier brought news from Pedaritus at Chios that the Athenian fortification was complete and the cause there was in danger.
